A brief preview of some Nintendo 3DS games

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a re release of the popular Nintendo 64 game Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D demo really played on my nostalgia from the Nintendo 64 version.  Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D has not changed much with all the content from the N64 version. Graphically the game is game as you would expect has increased greatly over the N64 version, the controls for the game are well done with my personal favourite being how the touchscreen was used to great effect. You can access your items and gears with easy presses and change to your bow or slingshot, this is great because it clears up the remaining controls. The 3D effect works well and feels to fit with the game and does not hinder the gameplay and works well with it.

To summarize Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is pretty much the N64 version with updated graphics and an easy to use control scheme.

Super Street Fighter IV 3D

Super Street Fighter IV 3D is a port of Super Street Fighter IV. The demo of Super Street Fighter IV 3D was limited to a best to 2 battle and the controls were pretty good and basic with kick, punch, block etc. What makes it different is the interesting way the decided to help people do 4 different types of combo moves that are unique to that character, so when you build up enough power you simply just press the combo you want to do and the character will preform it and so the need to remember the combination to do the combo has being removed I did try to find out if there was an option to turn off this combo help on the touchscreen but it was unknown at the time of asking. The 3D effect along with other games works there and is nice and does not hinder the gameplay.

To summarize Super Street Fighter IV 3D is a basic port of Street Fighter IV with an interesting use of the touchscreen to do combo attacks.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is a third person shooter which has a time based game. The objective is to kill as many enemies as possible within a limited time, you can increase the time by picking up time extensions in-game. The characters you play as are characters from Resident Evil IV and V. The controls for the game are solid and unlike Kid Icarus Uprising the camera controls are much better because the circle pad which moves the player also moves the camera behind the player unlike in the game I just mentioned. The 3D effects are pretty nice especially with the laser sight which appears to leap out of the screen. The unfortunate part is the fact it is only really a time based game with not much more.

To summarize Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is a solid game with a good 3D effect and a good control system. Unfortunately the fact that it is a time based game.

This brings an end to all the games I had a chance to preview. A reminder to all that a lot of these games were demos and may not reflect the final versions.
