Marvelous Europe has announced that the third person water-gun shooter, Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash will be released in Europe for PlayStation 4 this summer.

Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash is a spin-off title, which sees the Senran Kagura franchise away from its brawler roots and into the world of third-person shooters, well a more accurate description would be third person water-gun shooter since the game is based around a water-gun tournament.

Marvelous Europe’s official press release offers a quick breakdown of what to expect from Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash.

In SENRAN KAGURA Peach Beach Splash, when players are in single-player mode, they will choose a team of five from the more than 30 girls available, outfit them with customisable weapons and abilities, and then lead them into lighthearted water gun battles in a variety of combat arenas. Players can also go online to join their friends and take on opposing teams in 5-on-5 team battles as well as survival matches. Attribute cards add another layer of strategy to the water gun war with over 800 available, providing improved weapons, unique skills, and summonable pets. Players can equip any combination of six skill cards and three pet cards per match for a combo their opponents will never see coming. Come on in; the water’s great!

It seems as though Senran Kagura franchise is continuing its job of taking their fan service characters and trying to see if they work in any genre different to brawler. The last time I remember Marvelous attempted to put them into a new genre the result was Senran Kagura Bon Appétit, a rhythm cooking game where the prize for winning a game was seeing the characters in skimpy clothes.

While the potential excess of fan service in Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash will most likely raise eyebrows, I do remember having the same feelings of apprehension going into Senran Kagura Estival Versus, and that game turned out to be a great emotional and character driven game.
