*UPDATE* Reddit downvotes Battlefront II hero unlock explanation
EA’s attempt to explain Star Wars Battlefront II’s hero unlock system via Reddit has drawn anger from its fans with the explanation becoming the most downvoted Reddit comment ever.
Currently sitting on -426,000 points (rising steadily), the post from EACommunityTeam attempts to explain/justify why EA and DICE decided it was a good idea to require payers to play for up to 40-hours and 60,000 credits to unlock iconic characters such as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
The Reddit post from the EACommunityTeam reads as follow:
The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.
Controversy never seems to be too far away from EA’s Star Wars Battlefront II as the game’s open beta revealed that its loot box system contained pay to win elements, i.e. spending real money to gain items that will give you an advantage over other players.
It will be interesting to see if this latest piece of negative news hurts EA’s Star Wars Battlefront II sales.
*UPDATE* EA has announced that they have reduced the unlock cost of heroes by 75%, unlockable hero cost range from 15000, 10000 and 5000 credits.
