FFXIV: Stormblood hit by DDoS attacks
It appears there was something more sinister behind Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood’s technical issues, as Square Enix has revealed that the games NA data centre experienced a DDoS attack.
According to the article discussing the attack on the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone, the attacks occurred on June 16th, June 18th, and June 20th. The article states, “Our technical staff is taking every possible measure to address this issue but the attack is still continuing to take place by changing their methods at every moment. We will continue to monitor and work on recovery from every possible angle.”
Due to the DDoS attack has lead to the game servers, network equipment and network are being hit with heavy load at an extensive level, which is causing disconnection from Final Fantasy XIV and login difficulties.
Square Enix has made it clear that character date and personal information registered to customers’ accounts are not in danger of being exposed.
It is also worth noting that the DDoS attack is only affecting the North American data centre, there does not appear to any DDoS attack on either the European or Japanese data centres.
