As Activision and Infinity Ward look to the future with COD: Infinity War, EA and DICE look to the past as they have announced Battlefield 1, a game set during World War 1.

Battlefield 1, which will launch on October 21st for PlayStation 4, Origin for PC, and Xbox One, will see the Battlefield franchise take on the Great War (WW1), a massive gruelling 4-year war that saw empires fall and the European landscape changed forever. According to EA Battlefield 1 will send players to numerous locations with their press release stating, “From tight urban fights in a besieged French city, to big open spaces in the Italian Alps and frantic combats in the deserts of Arabia, discover a world at war through an adventure-filled campaign.” I’m personally interested to see what the game has us do in Arabia; personally, I wouldn’t mind it being something out of Lawrence of Arabia (if you haven’t seen that movie watch, it is great).

EA also had some words to say regarding the multiplayer, “In a true multiplayer sandbox experience, take to the skies and engage in high-octane dogfights through treacherous landscapes, or have a battleship obliterating the coast from the sea, and engage in some of the biggest battles ever seen as empires clash for supremacy.” So from what was said about multiplayer, it sounds like your normal Battlefield affair as players will be able to battle on land, sky and sea (although I think sea combat might be a first).

Finally, to get people more interested, EA released a reveal trailer for Battlefield 1. The trailer shows off various parts of the game. It is worth noting that the footage in the trailer is game engine footage and as such may not be representative of the final product.
