Nintendo 2016: plans for NX, anime and more
It seems Nintendo might be getting into anime as Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima reveals some of the plans for the company in 2016.
The plans for 2016 were published in the Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbun, and translated, via Twitter, by Tokyo-based game industry consultant Dr. Serkan Toto. According to Dr. Toto’s translated tweets Nintendo is planning to reveal new information regarding the Nintendo NX in 2016, and expand into smartphones, theme parks, movies and TV anime (via character licensing). Nintendo’s first smartphone app, Miitomo, is already well into development and is scheduled for release in Japan around March 2016.

Concerning the NX, Kimishima stated, “Nintendo wants to surprise fans with new ideas – not build on old ones.” Honestly, I hope the NX is a break away from the style of the Wii and Wii U, while I like some of the ideas behind both consoles including the Wii U’s controller I think a return to a traditional style would be very much welcome by both fans and third party developers.

Finally, Kimishima stated that the plan is to bring profits to 100 billion yen in several years. In the translation, tweet Dr. Toto pointed out that the 100 billion yen ($855 million) figure would be 4 times larger than last year’s profits.
