En Masse Entertainment has today announced that their action combat mmo, Tera will be going free to play without any restrictions in February of this year.

The move to free to play will coincide with the Tera: Rising update which will add a new dungeon, PVP battleground and more.

In the free to play announcement video, En Masse found time to take a swipe at Star Wars: The Old Republic’s free to play model by saying: “Instead of charging for existing dungeons or taking away your hotbars”, after mentioning they would not be restricting/locking free to play users from any part of the game.

Tera’s free to play model according to their official website will rely primarily on an in-game store which will sell a wide array of costumes and customization choices.

Along with the free to play account there will also be Elite status and Founder accounts for subscribers and for those who used to play Tera.

For those who want to customize their characters and stand apart from the crowd, the En Masse store will offer an even wider array of costume and customization choices. And for TERA players who want all the extras, there’s elite status, a purchase that offers 30 days of extra dungeon rewards, 10 bonus daily quests, a daily delivery of items and boosts, an elite mount, in-game store discounts, reduced brokerage fees, and more.

If you’re a current or former TERA player, congratulations—you’re a founder! That means eight character slots, four bank tabs, a “Founder” title, the exclusive Terminus mount, and more. (New players have two character slots and can get more with elite status or as an individual purchase at the En Masse store.)

While En Masse Entertainment only handles the N. American side of the game, Gameforge the company that handles the European side of the game has also revealed that the EU version will be going free to play in February too.
