The 1.80 update for the vita offers a lot more than just the arrival of PlayStation Plus. The new update will see various new features added to Sony’s latest handheld device.

Update 1.80 will include:

  • Control the home screen and some features in applications, such as Video, Music, or Settings, using the buttons on PS Vita.
  • Variable speed playback, fast-rewind and fast-forward, and repeat play will be supported in the Video application.
  • Music playlists which are imported from PlayStation 3 (PS3) or iTunes under Music application will be supported.
  • “Cross-Controller” icon will be added to the LiveArea under the Remote Play application to enable users to play PS3 format software by using their PS Vita as a controller.

Also with update 1.80 PlayStation one classics such as Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider and more will be available for download for the PS Vita.

PS Vita will also receive another feature called cross-buy which allows owners of the PS3 and Vita to purchase a game for one platform and play on another for free, or at a discount. Two games that will support this feature are Ratchet & Clank: QForce and Sly Cooper Thieves in Time.
