PlayStation Gamescom press conference wrap up

On August 17, 2011 by Ash Meehan

Here is a quick round up of some things that were mentioned.

A new PSP was announced exclusively for Europe. It will cost €99 but will have now WiFi and will use UMDs.

The PlayStation 3 got a price drop and will now retail for €249, $249 and 24,980 Yen.

Now for some Move news because Sony continues to believe it was a huge success.

FIFA 13 will have full move control and according to the presenter the Move makes PS3 games fun. I know it is marketing but honestly who actually believes the Move is fun? I tried it out just before it launched and I thought it was poor and I stand by it.

2 new Move games were talked about.

Move Fitness

“Move Fitness” is a fitness based game because you know there’s not enough fitness games in the market. Honestly looking at it I would avoid it because it really looks like all the other fitness games just with some new bells and whistles.

Dance Star Party

Ok looking at this game it could be fun, but of course it is for a niche audience. Dance Star Party allows you dance to your favourite songs and you can record them and show them to your friends and see if they can do better. A good addition though to it is the ability to make your own dance rhythms.

Now onto some PS3 game news finally.

Resistance 3

Well not much was talked about this game apart from a trailer that was inspired by the person who made the box art which made the New York skyline appear on the skull. It was nice it explained a bit of the Resistance 3 story.
That was the only real Resistance 3 news at the conference which was a little disappointing, but if it made the presenter talk less I wouldn’t complain.

Infamous 2: Festival of Blood

Ok honestly I could not say I could see this coming. This is downloadable addon for Infamous 2 which sees vampires invade the city and the main character has just one day to kill the head vampire to save his life and the life. The addon will be out this October and if it during Halloween week I can say I saw it coming.

Uncharted 3

Uncharted 3 got a bit of love as a live demo was shown of Nathan getting onto a cargo plane with the help of Elaine, who uses a jeep to help Jake catch up to a plane that is taking off. There is not much to talk about and hopefully the video of the demo will be released soon.

Now with all the games out of the way Sony announced that they would be selling the best value 3D TV for people so they can continue to make people believe that 3D on consoles work. The TV is 24 inches and has simulview which means 2 people can view the screen with 2 3D glasses no problem. The TV was priced at €499 for the TV and 2 Glasses. Yeah Sony I will give that TV a miss.

In all the PlayStation conference was lack lust in comparison to EA’s which brought some great games to the table and while Sony brought some good games they seemed to have bogged it down with too many on stage gimmicks.
As you can see some of the video are online while some are not.
