Notch challenges Bethesda

On August 20, 2011 by Ash Meehan

Earlier this month Bethesda lawyers slapped a trademark lawsuit on Mojang the creators of Minecraft over the name of their upcoming game “Scrolls”.

He reason for the lawsuit is because “Scrolls” could potentially be confused with Bethesda’s “The Elder Scrolls” series. By the way this serious Bethesda is threatening to sue Mojang over a word.

Suffice to say Notch and Mojang are none too pleased about this and Notch has come up with a way to sort it and that is to challenge them to a duel.
Yes, Notch wants to challenge Bethesda to a duel to sort out this whole trademark issue.

The duel will work via a game of Quake 3 were both studios will submit 3 staff members to take part and both parties will select a level. The matches will last 20 minutes and the team with the highest total frag count per team on both levels will win.

If Mojang win the Lawsuit is dropped, but if Bethesda wins they can change the name of “Scrolls” to a game they are fine with.

There is no word if Bethesda is willing to take up Notch’s offer. In all no one really looses as it is great publicity for both companies but if Bethesda turn down this offer it could look bad for them.
