During today’s PlayStation Experience, Square Enix has released the gameplay footage for Final Fantasy VII Remake.

The first piece of gameplay footage shows off the early portion of the game involving Cloud and Barret’s first meeting and mission. The most striking part of the gameplay trailer aside from the beautiful graphical upgrade is the combat. The combat appears very FFXV in its execution, although with the jump of jump cuts it isn’t possible to determine if the game’s combat has moved away from its original turn-based roots to a now action heavy form of combat.

For those who have been living under a rock for the past few months, Final Fantasy VII Remake was announced during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, it was a move that took many (including myself) by surprise as no one expected to see Square Enix release a HD remaster let alone remake of the 1997 released Final Fantasy VII.

The gameplay trailer was the only piece of information regarding the game, but it is great to see how far the game is into production, especially when Square Enix stated the game had only entered full production in June this year.
