Blizzard Entertainment has announced, via Twitter that they will be revealing the next World of Warcraft expansion at Gamescom on Thursday, August 6th at 17:00 CEST.

The announcement came via a tweet via the game’s official twitter account.

An article on the official World of Warcraft website regarding the announcement didn’t reveal much more information than the above tweet.

While the tweet and article hasn’t revealed much it hasn’t much in the way of information on the content of the expansion it hasn’t stopped fans of the MMORPG from speculating on what the new expansion could be, in fact, YouTuber BelluarGaming recently talked about “10 potential World of Warcraft Expansions”. It is an interesting video and you can watch it below.

It is interesting to see Blizzard announce a brand new expansion after the game’s current expansion, Warlords of Draenor, was only released last November. Warlords of Draenor has proved to be a rather divisive expansion as the game has already received its final content expansion – Patch 6.2 – and while it gave players access to a new raid tier and zone I personally don’t see how fans could stand around waiting for this upcoming 6th expansion, which most likely won’t come out until 2016.

As a former World of Warcraft player I am interested to see what Blizzard do with the game as the latest expansions failed to capture my attention, for example when I took part in the Warlords of Draenor beta I got bored by the end of the first zone.
