Valve to release Steam Machines in 2014
In the second of three announcements Valve has announced their own line up of gaming focused PCs called Steam Machines. Valve will be releasing multiple versions of this new PC in 2014.
In the announcement, Steam gave very little information with regards to the specs of the machines and how many different versions there would be. The only information apart from the announcement was the fact that 300 Steam users will be receiving a prototype version for testing. To select these 300 users, Valve is asking Steam users to undertake “The Hardware Beta Eligibility Quest”. For this quest you must complete five steps. These steps are listed below.
THE HARDWARE BETA ELIGIBILITY QUEST:
Before October 25, log in to Steam and then visit your quest page to track your current status towards beta test eligibility
1. Join the Steam Universe community group
2. Agree to the Steam Hardware Beta Terms and Conditions
3. Make 10 Steam friends (if you haven’t already)
4. Create a public Steam Community profile (if you haven’t already)
5. Play a game using a gamepad in Big Picture mode
If you have any questions related to eligibility, Valve has answers to several potential questions on the Steam Machines page.
Steam Machines is the second of three announcements. The first announcement was SteamOS a free operating system from Valve. The third announcement is due out later today.
