Early this week EA announced they will be working with Virgin Gaming to create a Battlefield 3 competition with a prize pool of $1.6 Million.

The tournament is set to begin early 2012 and is available only for consoles (sorry PC gamers). The competition will be known as “Battlefield 3 Worldwide Conquest Tournament” is open to all console gamers, but to gain entry you must fight through online qualifiers and completing this you will be flown out to take part in the battle for the $1.6 million prize pool.

League of Legends Riot Games are the only company to offer anyway as much money for a competition with League of Legends season 2 having a prize pool of $5 million.

Zachary Zeldin, Co-Founder of Virgin Gaming explained why BF3 was chosen for the competition by saying. “We’re always looking to raise the bar for our members, to give them truly epic gaming experiences they won’t find anywhere else andBattlefield 3 hits the mark,”

Finally Sir Richard Branson the creator of Virgin put out an announcement video for the event.
