EA Gamescom Press conference wrap up

On August 16, 2011 by Ash Meehan

SSX

SSX was the name of game that was up next and who could forget the legendary snowboarding series which was loved around the world and the newest version seems to keep legacy of the previous titles intact.

During the speech 3 important points were made about the new SSX:

  1. A huge world built by NASA date and Google Earth.
  2. Incredible gameplay: race it, trick it and survive it are the pillars of SSX gameplay.
  3. Social play. We put a huge focus on multiplayer and online gameplay.

After this the focus turned to the multiplayer and 2 online modes known as Explore and Global Events.

In explore you can drop into any of the planet’s iconic mountain ranges. Each time you have a personal best we’re going to upload a ghost of your run that lives permanently and that all your friends can see, even when you’re away from your console.

in global events – up to 100,000 players live at once. Global events also include Customizable events – fully customizable events you can set up just for you and your friends. Instead of riding against ghosts of past runs, now you’re competing against other players around the world in real-time.

Yes that is right SSX is boasting that it can have up to 100,000 players live at once.

KINGDOM OF AMALUR: RECKONING

Now this part of the press conference could only be described as crazy. 38 Studios Ken Rolston came out to talk about Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning and saying he was crazy is well a bit of an understatement. He was over the top crazy and seemed to love the game he was presenting unfortunately this made it pretty much impossible to understand what he was talking about. All I got was that the game will be out February 10, 2012 (Europe) and February 7, 2012 (North America).

THE SCERET WORLD

If there were only 2 reasons to watch this EA press conference I would say the first would be because of Star Wars: The Old Republic and the second to learn about Funcom’s MMO “The Secret World”. Ranger Tournquist introduced the game and talked about what we knew which was everything is true, the factions and the fact there will be no set classes.

After all that we got some information that people were really craving for and that was the beta sign up date and the official release date. You will be able to sign up for the beta in 9 days (August 26th) and the game will aim to be released in April 2012 (fingers crossed for April 1st).

After all that we were treated to the 4th CGI trailer for the game.

FIFA 12

Well EA Sports came back and dropped some new FIFA 12 news. Personally I wasn’t listening as intently on this as the rest because I have not playing a FIFA game for a while. It was discussed that player AI would be much improved and it would see the AI players play like their real life counter parts. For example Wayne Rooney would try to get space and shoot at long range just like in real life.

Also it was announced that FIFA Ultimate Team will be released with FIFA 12. Also the demo will be available September 13.

FIFA 12 is due to hit selves September 27th (North America) and September 29th (Europe).

BATTLEFIELD 3

Last but by no means least EA rolled out Battlefield 3 to loud round of applause and cheering. Their talk opened with Karl Magnus saying “Battlefield 3 is the best, modern warfare experience game this year”. Well we shall see what Activision and Modern Warfare 3 can do to convince people that it isn’t Battlefield 3 that deserves that.

DICE did make a big reveal by announcing and showing off co-op mode. Co-op mode features the full range of Battlefield gameplay including ground and air vehicles, missions and tight urban warfare. After it was announced we saw Patrick Soderlund and Karl Magnus take up the challenge of a live co-op demo and it looked nice as their mission was to take someone from a safe house and help escort him.

After that we got treated to a new gameplay trailer which featured among other things fighter jets and helicopters.
