Homefront review

The multiplayer is unarguably the best part of this game and looks to have received better treatment then the single player. Homefront multiplayer allows for 16V16 combat in team deathmatch (TDM) and ground control (GC). TDM is your standard kill the enemy team until you get enough points and GC which is one of the best parts of the game revolves around capturing 3 points, now when you capture all 3 points and hold them for long enough until you win the round the map expands revealing 3 other capture points which you must try to take and win the game. You also have BattlePoints (BP) which allow you to use special weapons and vehicles, but unlike in most games where unlocking special weapons and vehicles requires you no to die the BP lasts through death and removes a lot of frustration. Some specials weapons you can use are RPG’s, flack jackets and various drones. You can also use BP to get humvees, tanks and helicopters, the BP throws up a lot of fun especially in Ground Control where later into the game you see more vehicles and special weapons being used. In addition there is Battle Commander (BC) where if you get multiple kills without dying the enemy team will be notified that you are a priority target and will be shown your general area (this is a great way to stop camping in my opinion), BC also applies to vehicles too.

But let us delve into some of the issues the multiplayer has and what it does well. Some issues which appear to be are glitches most notably on some the dead bodies of fallen players, but this can be considered a non game breaking issue with the game another issue which appears to be happening is weapon balance primarily with the sniper rifle which is incredible accurate due to what could appear to be a large hit box and you will see the majority of the games containing snipers, but again while it is an issue it cannot be described as huge because with proper tactics you can easily work around the snipers. What the multiplayer does well is the server back end, I cannot praise THQ and Kaos Studios decision to use dedicated servers enough and it really shows as you are certain to find a game that will have a low ping, but some people have said they have had issues connecting to the servers but personally I have had none apart from when I forgot to set my firewall to allow Homefront (whoops). In truth Homefront multiplayer seems to have the same issues most online multiplayers have but it is all up to how Kaos Studios deal with some of the issues in the coming month.

In conclusion Homefront for me is an above average title with a singleplayer that was mediocre to good at times. It has a fun fast paced multiplayer and when some of kinks are worked out I can see it being one of the better multiplayers out on the market.
