Recently the multiplayer demo for the upcoming Crysis 2 was released for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. So I decided to take a look at Crytek’s newest game.

The demo consists of 2 maps, “Skyline” which is a map that takes place on top of a skyscraper in New York and the second map is called “Pier 17” which takes place in a pier and some surrounding houses on the pier. Now both these maps consist of 2 game types, “team instant action” which is team deathmatch which is just kill the enemy players and the first team to get 50 points wins or which ever team has the most points when the time runs out, the second game type is called “Crash Site” which isn’t supposed to be playable until you reach level 6, but in the demo it is available from level 1, going on “Crash Site” is an objective game type in which you must capture and hold an alien drop pod to gain points until the pod explodes and you then move onto the next one that drops, to win you must get 150 points.

The first thing you will likely notice is the usual preset classes, but at level 5 you can create customisable classes. The classes you can make have your standard primary and secondary weapons and grenades, but in Crysis 2 you can use a perk based system called “suit modules” which you can customise. There are 3 suit module slots one for armour, stealth and power categories.

The armour module allows you to enhance your armour with more then just maximum armour which temporary increases your armour strength. One such armour enhancement is called “Air Stomp” which allows you to preform a downward punch while you are in the air causing damage to the enemies that are around you.

The second module is known as the stealth module which allows you to enhance your cloak which makes you invisible. One stealth enhancement is called “Covert Ops” which reduces the sound of your footsteps while you are cloaked.

The last module is known as the power module which allows you to enhance you weapon to make it more powerful for example you can use the enhancement “aim enhance” which decreases recoil when you are aiming down your sights.

To balance these 3 modules an energy gauge. The gauge will drop when you are using a module. This is to stop people over using stealth and armour enhancements but also the energy gauge also drops when you run (running counts as a power module). Also when you use multiple enhancements at once say running (power) and cloak (stealth) will cause your gauge to drop quicker. Managing the gauge is important to staying alive.

One Response to “Crysis 2 Multiplayer demo preview”

  • I’m intrigued by this title. The campaign is likely going to be average, and short. That you’ve indicated a lackluster multiplayer experience isn’t encouraging me any.
