During EA’s E3 2017 press conference, the publishing giant announced that after the success of FIFA 17’s The Journey story mode, Madden NFL 18, NBA Live 18 and FIFA 18 will all be getting a story mode.

Madden NFL 18’s story mode called “Longshot”, follows an aspiring American Football player trying to make it to the NFL, but like all good stories encounters various trials. The overall idea of the story seems similar to FIFA 17’s “The Journey” story, which does return in FIFA 18 with players once again taking on the role of Alex Hunter in “The Journey Hunter Returns”. The final sports game, NBA Live 18 will have a mode called “The One”, while the new mode is not essentially a story mode like Longshot or The Journey; The One is about how your choices and play in both street level and professional basketball affects your character’s stats.

While it is interesting to see EA add a story into additional sports games it will be interesting to see if they expand upon its initial incarnation in FIFA 17’s The Journey.

Madden NFL 18 will be released in August for PS4, Xbox One and PC. FIFA 18 will be released on September 25th for PS4, Xbox One and PC. NBA Live 18 will be released in September.
