Nordic Games becomes THQ Nordic, 13 unannounced games in development
Since THQ began liquidation in April 2013, Nordic Games was one of the main benefactors of THQs closure with Nordic acquiring Darksiders, Red Faction and many other THQ properties. Following the acquisition of various THQ video game properties, Nordic acquired the THQ trademark, a move that allowed the company to use the THQ brand.
In today’s announcement, Nordic Games explained why they decided to rebrand themselves as THQ Nordic. The simple answer for the rebranding was brand recognition, as Nordic Games pointed out in their press release, people didn’t know who they were when they bought the THQ properties, and as such, Nordic decided to use the THQ name to stand out more.
“Whilst we take great pride in our Swedish roots and accomplished a great deal under the Nordic Games masthead, we decided it was time to incorporate the THQ name. Those key brands will continue to shape our business in a meaningful way going forward, and THQ Nordic represents a core approach of doing much more than “owning” a highly competitive portfolio of IPs.”
Included in the THQ Nordic announcement is the fact that the company has 23 game projects in development, 13 of which have not yet been publicly announced. Out of the 13 games unannounced games, THQ Nordic stated that “the majority of these projects are based on former THQ owned IPs and franchises.”
