NX to launch March 2017, won’t appear at E3

During Nintendo’s latest earnings call the company revealed that the Nintendo NX is set to launch globally in March 2017. Nintendo also announced that the NX wouldn’t be appearing at E3.

The fact that Nintendo won’t be showing off their next system at E3 in June is not cause for any form of alarm. The lack of NX showing means the system will most likely be unveiled at a different event. Since the NX won’t be revealed at E3, the system could most likely be revealed during the Tokyo Game Show in September, if you exclude the Tokyo Game Show Nintendo could reveal the system via a Nintendo Direct, but I feel a Nintendo Direct would lack the audience and press reactions that are generated by events.

For people wondering where the information regarding the NX release window is coming from, it was stated in an official Nintendo PR email. The email gave the following statement,

“NX: Nintendo previously announced that it would release more information about its next system, code-named NX, this year. As the first announcement of any NX information, Nintendo confirmed that NX is scheduled to launch in March 2017. NX will not make an appearance at the upcoming E3 video game trade show in Los Angeles in June and will be unveiled later this year.”

For those curious about what to expect from Nintendo at E3 since the NX will be a no show, the latest instalment in The Legend of Zelda series will be the focus of Nintendo’s presence at E3. While the latest game in the series was announced at E3 2014 not much information has been provided regarding the game, but Nintendo’s PR email did reveal that the game is scheduled to launch simultaneously for both Wii U and NX, this means the game will most likely not be released until March 2017.
