Hi-Rez Studios has announced that the first member of the Japanese Pantheon, Amaterasu, the Goddess of the Sun, will be playable in SMITE starting Jan. 12th on PC and late Feb. on Xbox One.

Amaterasu is the first character based on Japanese mythology to join the god-based MOBA. To celebrate the reveal, Hi-Rez Studios released a video discussing Amaterasu’s lore and her SMITE abilities.

Amaterasu was not the only announcement by Hi-Rez Studios. Before the start of the ongoing SMITE World Championship, Hi-Rez announced the company’s first mobile game, Jetpack Fighter, a swipe-to-attack, high-speed platformer with gear progression. One of Jetpack Fighter’s heroines, Leona, will also appear in SMITE as an alternate skin for the goddess Nemesis, and Nemesis will be a playable character in Jetpack Fighter. The game is now available on select iOS devices as a free-to-download title; the game will be available on additional devices in the coming months.

Finally, to celebrate the start of the SMITE World Championship, Hi-Rez Studios released a new cinematic trailer for SMITE.
