Sony Computer Entertainment has today announced that the PS4 has sold more than 30.2 million units worldwide as of November 22nd.

The number of units sold is significant, as Sony has sold almost three times as many Wii U in just over a fraction of the Wii Us lifespan, and while comparing sales between the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One is difficult to determine since Microsoft has decided to stop reporting on how many Xbox One units they sold. Although, The Independent has stated that VGChartz’s unofficial count has the number of Xbox Ones sold at 15.6 million units.

If all the figures regarding consoles sold are indeed true then it appears Sony could dominate this console cycle unless Microsoft finds a way to increase Xbox One sales or Nintendo’s unannounced NX device can attract enough attention.

In the press release regarding the announcement Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc had the following to say regarding the newly announces figures.

“We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago,” “We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation.”

The press release also made mention of the fact that the PlayStation 4 has a large number of anticipated titles including Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Gravity Rush Remastered.
