New Nintendo president named

Nintendo has today announced that former managing director, Tatsumi Kimishima, is the new president of Nintendo.

Kimishima, 55, will be the company’s fifth president, succeeding Satoru Iwata, who served as president from 2002 until his death in July.

Kimishima began his career in 1973 in the Japanese banking industry, and in 2000, he left the banking industry and entered the video game industry as Chief Financial Officer of The Pokémon Company. He was appointed the role of president of Nintendo of America in January 2002, and became CEO and chairman of Nintendo of America in May 2006 when Reggie File-Aime took over as president. Since June 2013, Tatsumi Kimishima has served as managing director at Nintendo, as well as general manager of the company’s corporate analysis & Administration division and its general affairs division. He was also made the managing director of Nintendo’s human resources division in June 2014.

Tatsumi Kimishima role as Nintendo Co. Ltd representative director and president will come into effect on September 16, 2015.
