Wii U lifetime sales pass 10 million
After more than two years on the market, Nintendo’s Wii U has finally passed 10 million, but sales of the console still appear to be poor with only 470,000 units sold from April 2015 to June 2015, this compares poorly to last year’s first fiscal quarterly report where the company sold 510,000 units.
Despite the Wii U’s poor sales the quarter proved profitable for Nintendo with the company posting a net profit of ¥8.3 billion, in the same quarter last year Nintendo made a ¥9.9 billion loss.
Nintendo’s profit came thanks to strong sales of their additional properties. Nintendo 3DS sales surpassed 1 million units sold, and Splatoon has sold 1.62 million units since its release at the end of May. The amiibo also contributed to Nintendo’s sales growth with the company reporting “favourable sales of amiibo” and that they “will continue to expand the product lineup”, so expect to see new amiibo figures to appear in the not too distant future.
For those curious Nintendo’s NX device was not mentioned in earnings reports.
