New Transformers game combines movie and Cybertron universes

On February 17, 2014 by Ash Meehan

Today, Activision has officially announced Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. This new Transformers game takes Michael Bay’s Transformers movies and merges it with the War of Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron game series.

According to Activision, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will complement the upcoming Michael Bay movie, Transformers: Age of Extinction, but the game will go beyond the upcoming movie. Although it is not made entirely clear how the Cybertron universe fits into the game’s story, it could be that the Cybertronian Transformers turned into Bay’s Transformers after landing on Earth, but currently the answer is not 100% clear. However we do that the basic plot of the game.

The main plot revolves around a hunt for an ancient relic called – the dark spark, a relic as powerful as the Matrix of Leadership. Throughout the campaign players will experience both sides of the hunt with players switching between Autobot and Deception, according to Activision this switching will be similar to what players experienced in High Moon Studios’ Cybertron games.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark also features an improved multiplayer experience, with the return of the fan-favourite wave-based survival Escalation. The mode will feature new, upgradeable defence systems, recognisable adversaries from the lore, and an expanded roster of playable characters from past and present. The game will also see a new levelling system that will combine both single-player and multiplayer into one unified, persistent character development path.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be released  in June 2014 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
