Flappy Bird creator says the game will be going offline tomorrow
Fans of the free to play iOS and Android game Flappy Bird are in for some disappointing news, as the game’s creator has announced via twitter that the game will be going offline in less than 24 hours.
In the tweet regarding the shutdown the creator stated: “I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down. I cannot take this anymore.”

The “I can’t take this anymore” part of his statement is likely down to the backlash from sites like Kotaku who on Thursday pointed out that the art, which is inspired by Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros., seemed to go past inspiration and into what Kotaku’s Jason Schreier called “ripoff territory”. Since its release in May 2013 Flappy Bird has proven to be a major success for the creator with him telling The Verge that his free to play game makes “on average $50,000 a day from in-app ads.” The creator has given no solid reason for the game going offline, but in a tweet immediately following the shutdown announcement he ruled out any legal issues, “It is not anything related to legal issues. I just cannot keep it anymore”.
