Alien: Isolation brings back the horror of the Alien franchise

On January 7, 2014 by Aaron Meehan

Sega appears to be brining Alien back to its horror routes with the claustrophobic looking first person survival horror game, Alien: Isolation.

If the announcement material and developer hype is proven to be accurate we might be seeing one of the most authentic Alien games released. In the announcement Sega has pointed out that the game is all about surviving in a decommissioned trade station with a lone Xenomorph stalking in the shadows. With no way to fight it the game requires you to use your wits to survive from the unstoppable patrolling menace.

Alien: Isolation synopsis

Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger. Fifteen years after the events of Alien™, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother’s disappearance.

As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien.

Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.

“In Alien: Isolation, we have taken the series back to the roots of Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie, the original survival horror,” said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead at Creative Assembly in the announcement press release. “Our Alien is a truly terrifying creature, as intelligent as he is hostile, relentless, brutal and unstoppable. This is the Alien game fans of the series have always wanted.”

While the above announcement gameplay trailer does a good job of creating the tension, especially with the music, PlayStation Access’s interview with the game’s creators Creative Assembly do an amazing job setting up and explaining the world. You can see PlayStation Access’s video interview below.

Honestly, from watching the released footage I am both terrified and excited to play this game.

Alien: Isolation will be released in late 2014, for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
