Over 4 million copies of Pokémon X and Y sold in two days

On October 15, 2013 by Aaron Meehan

If Nintendo  is to be believed the first 3DS Pokémon game set, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y have sold more than 4 million copies worldwide on October 12th and October 13th.

Since this is the first Pokémon game to be released worldwide on the same day, it would be difficult to see how the game compared to previous Pokémon launches, so Nintendo decided to combine and compare regional data from previous launches to see how other titles compared over the same two day period. The results found that Pokémon X and Y is on track to surpass the last Pokémon game set Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, by more than 70 percent. The data showed that Pokémon X and Y would be the fastest-selling Nintendo 3DS game of all time.

For the announcement Nintendo decided to point out how well past Pokémon games sold. Nintendo pointed out that five Pokémon sets have sold more than 10 million units since 2002, and of those five, three have surpassed 15 million units. The game set with the highest total global sales were Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl with 17.63 million and the game set with the lowest total global sales were Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen with 12 million. Nintendo has stated that these numbers are based on internal sales figures and current as of March 31st 2013.

It seems Pokémon X and Pokémon Y has proven that it is still as popular as ever, even after 15+ years.
