Gran Turismo 6 announced at Grand Turismo anniversary event

Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital, announced Gran Turismo 6 during the Gran Turismo 15th anniversary event at Silverstone. GT 6 will be release this holiday season for the PlayStation 3.

Gran Turismo 6 will feature new cars and seven new location including Silverstone. These new cars and tracks will be joined by all the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5. This means that GT6 will have a total of 1,200 cars at launch, with new cars available via DLC. The total number of locations for people to race on will be raised to 33, which means that there will be a total of 71 different track layouts at launch.

According to Kazunori Yamauchi GT6 will feature a new compact game engine. The new engine will improve operation increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content. The new game engine will also include a new rendering engine which will supposedly pushes the limits of the PS3.

If a new game engine isn’t enough. The game will have a new physics engine. The new physics engine which was developed in partnership with Yokohama Rubber and KW Automotive will feature: new suspension and kinematics model, new tyre model and a new aerodynamics model.

Gran Turismo 6 will also include a new course maker, an emphasis on community with player created online events and team clubs, expanded connectivity with other devices such as smart phones and tablets, and finally a new user interface which promises shorter loading time and a quick response time.

Kazunori Yamauchi had the following to say about GT6, during the GT Anniversary event.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,”

“Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments. I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will be only the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”
