The Walking Dead: The Game creators Telltale games were the big winners at last night’s Video Game Awards 2012 as they took home five awards including coveted Game of year and best downloadable game.

The tenth annual video game awards through up some good surprises with Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 beating Halo 4, Black Ops 2 and Max Payne 3 to take home the award for best shooter. Not happy with just one award Borderlands 2 went on to win best multi-player game, best performance by a human male and character of the year.

Another big winner on the night was that game company’s Journey which took home best independent game, best PS3 game and best original score (which has incidentally been nominated for a Grammy).

As it was the award shows tenth anniversary there was a special best game of the last decade award. The nominees for this award included portal, shadow of the colossus, World of Warcraft and Half Life 2. Alas there could only be one winner and in the end the winner for best game of the last decade was Half Life 2.
