ZeniMax and Mojang settle Scrolls lawsuit

On March 13, 2012 by Aaron Meehan

ZeniMax have reached a settlement with Mojang over Mojang’s application for ownership of the Scrolls trademark for their upcoming digital card game called ‘Scrolls’.

The lawsuit was filed by ZeniMax after Mojang had submitted applications for the ‘Scrolls’ trademark which included video games and other media. The reason for the lawsuit was because ZeniMax said the application conflicted with its trademark for ‘The Elder Scrolls’.

The settlement will see all rights to the ‘Scrolls’ trademark transferred to ZeniMax, and Mojang will assign to ZeniMax ownership of any pending ‘Scrolls’ trademark applications. ZeniMax has allowed Mojang to use the name ‘Scrolls’ in their upcoming digital card game and for any add-on material for the game. The terms of settlement bar Mojang from using the Scrolls mark for any sequel to the upcoming Scrolls game.
