Fallout MMO rights returned to Bethesda
The lawsuit between Bethesda Software and Interplay Entertainment which saw Bethesda seeking the cancellation of the licence granted to Interplay to develop a Fallout MMO has ended with Bethesda winning back the rights.
Under the terms of the settlement from the case, the licence for Interplay to develop a Fallout MMO is null and void and all rights granted to them to develop the MMO have reverted back to Bethesda, effective immediately. Interplay now has no ongoing rights to use the Fallout brand or any Fallout IP for any game development. ZeniMax Bethesda’s parent company will pay Interplay $2 million as a consideration in the settlement. Interplay will also be permitted to continue to sell Fallout Tactics, Fallout and Fallout 2 through December 2013. Under the original agreement when Bethesda acquired the Fallout property, Interplay was granted certain merchandising rights to sell the original Fallout games until December 31, 2013.
