Trion Worlds become the latest hack victims
Today Trion Worlds sent out notifications to its users that unauthorized intruders had gained access to the Trion Worlds account database.
The account that was compromised contained user names, encrypted passwords, date of birth, email addresses, billing addresses and the first and last four digits and expiration dates of customer credit cards.
At this time there is no evidence that full credit card information was accessed or compromised in any way and Trion Worlds have stated they have taken further action to strengthen their system as they continue with the help of external security experts to research the extent of the unauthorized access.
Trion Worlds have also created a mandatory password change for users, so when you log in to Trion Worlds you will be prompted to provide a new password, security questions and answers along with the option to connect your account with Trion World’s mobile authenticator.
Finally Trion Worlds has stated that the hack will not affect Rift as it will continue to run uninterrupted during this incident, but as a sorry Trion Worlds are offering three days free time to Rift players when they change update their account.
For more information check out the post on the incident over at Trion Worlds.
This hack/intrusion marks a continued list of hacks that have happened throughout this year alone. Some high profile game companies who were hacked includes Square Enix (who were hacked earlier this month), Bethesda’s Brink site was hacked in June and the most high profile of all was the hack on Sony which saw the PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment station go down for several weeks, but there were more.
Now that you have finished reading this be sure to change your Trion Worlds account details if you have an account with them.
