Sony confirm PSN Pass

On July 7, 2011 by Ash Meehan

Early today Sony confirmed rumors of the PSN Pass after news came out yesterday that the German Resistance 3 bundle had PSN Pass on its package. The pass works in a similar way to EA’s project 10 dollar or the Homefront battle code works which needs to be bought to play Homefront online multiplayer if you rent or buy a used copy.

SCEE said in a statement on VG247

“We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities.”

Also in the statement SCEE said

“This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.
This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.”

My thought are that it will be interesting to see how the PSN pass idea goes, but honestly I don’t see an issue with it because if you buy the game new you have nothing to worry about, but if you buy it used you have to buy the pass for the game that uses it which makes sense because companies receive no revenue from used game sales by retail stores like gamestop etc. so it is a good way to make a constant income.
