Playstation official site slows to a crawl on day Anonymous promise attack

On April 4, 2011 by Aaron Meehan

Today the hacker group “Anonymous” who in the past were responsable for a few DDOS (Denial of Service)attacks said they would take down the Playstation network and other major Sony sites.

It now appears that Anonymous have gone through with their planned attack as the Playstation blog and Playstation site have started to run very slow or not run at all. What also made it interesting was that Sony decided to do sporadic maintenance on the Playstation Network which allows users to purchase items in the Playstation store or play online. This may beg the question was this a planned maintenance or is it Sony’s way of covering themselves in case Anonymous managed to take down the Playstation Network.

The reason behind the attack by Anonymous is because how Sony are in the process of suing George Hotz who was responsable for cracking the PS3 firmware, but the attack is also about how Sony are attempting to view the IP addresses of people who visited George Hotz’s site and the fact also they have access to his PayPal account to see who was funding him.

Also below is the message Anonymous put up earlier today on Youtube:
