Sony announce NGP

Last night at Sony’s Tokyo press conference the long talked about new Playstation portable was announced, but without the name everyone thought it would get. Apparently Sony for now have decided not to go for Playstation portable 2 (PSP2) just yet and are still referring to it by its codename NGP (next generation portable entertainment system).

Before the press conference Sony had said the PSP2/NGP would be as powerful as a PS3 and Sony showed it off by having Metal Gear Solid 4 and Yakuza 4 (both PS3 titles) and both games supposedly used all the PS3 assets and were reported as running smoothly on the NGP. So it looks like Sony were right on this one.

Also before I bore you with system specs and games Sony announced that games will be stored on a small flash memory system for the game thus seeing Sony doing away with the horrible UMD of the PSP and download only of the PSPGo.
