Final Fantasy XIV 4.2 coming late January and more
Square Enix has announced that the Final Fantasy XIV update 4.2 – the second major update for the Stormblood expansion- will be available later this month. The update is set to continue the Stormblood story, add new endgame content, a glamour system update and more.
While Square Enix has yet to provide detailed information regarding all of 4.2 as details regarding the update was spread across two live letters. The first was released on December 15 with the second letter coming January 19.
The first letter revealed the continuation of the main story (which sees the return of Gotsetsu), a new side story quest called The Jade Stoa (a story where you encounter the Four Lords that protect Koshu and Doma (the four creatures you see surrounding Koshu on the in-game map)), and the game’s two new dungeons were also revealed to be Hells’ Lid and The Fractal Continuum (Hard).
While these were the focus of the first letter, the full list of content for 4.2 was also revealed.

- New Primal Battle
- New Dungeons
- A New Duty Recorder Feature

Now, to celebrate the New Year, Naoki Yoshida, Director of Final Fantasy XIV, published a New Years letter. The letter talks about how 2017 and the recent 4.2 and FFXIV Fan Festival 2018-2019 announcements. Naoki Yoshida also casually hinted at plans for another event that will take place over a year from now.
