GXI release statement following some confusion created by unrelated event
Today, Dublin Comic Con has released a statement explaining how their upcoming convention, Games Expo Ireland is not related to a similar convention from earlier this year.
It is unknown where the issue stems from but Dublin Comic Con’s statement is in regards to GamerCon, a gaming convention that took place in Dublin in March of this year, the convention made headlines around the world for its poor organisation and overselling of tickets, which left many attendees out in the cold.
Since the GamerCon fiasco, many Dublin based conventions have suffered, as potential attendees seem to see them as potential disasters like GamerCon.
Below is Dublin Comic Con’s statement regarding Games Expo Ireland:
We have been carrying out a lot of promotional work over the last few weeks in the build up to GXI this weekend and the feedback from these events and FB/Twitter posts has been fantastic, but has also been surprising.
In light of this feedback, we feel the need to make the following statement. It’s been a tough year for gaming events as a whole and while we’d hoped we wouldn’t need to make a statement like this, it’s clear that we must.
Errors were made by a group hosting an event earlier this year and it has impacted the convention scene as a whole more than any of us could have predicted. Games Expo Ireland (GXI) is a branch of the Dublin Comic Con group and marks their 7th event for Irish fans but also their first gaming focused event.
GXI isn’t affiliated with any other brands that have hosted large scale events like this during 2017 and GXI is run by fans, for fans.
Our primary focus is to bring the best possible show to our fans, old and new, and we hope that those of you in attendance this weekend will be able to see that.
We thank you all for your ongoing support and hope that this reassures those who still have doubts on gaming events in general.
