Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that during the holiday season (23/11 – 2/1) the company sold more than 5.7 million PlayStation 4s. This brings the total number of PS4s to more than 35.9 million as of January 3rd.

Sony also revealed that the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers at the end of 2015 (24/11 – 22/12) was 60% higher when compared to the same period in 2014.

If all the numbers Sony provided are accurate than has once again shown its dominance in the console market, with some speculating that the number of PlayStation 4s sold is almost double that of its nearest competitor Microsoft’s Xbox One. However, it is difficult to know how many Xbox Ones have been sold as Microsoft has decided to stop reporting on how many Xbox One units they have sold.

With such a strong start to the year, Sony Computer Entertainment is hoping that the number of anticipated exclusive and console exclusive titles, such as The Last Guardian and No Man’s Sky will help keep the PlayStation 4 the top console of this current generation.
