Several services including PSN and SOE suffer DDOS attacks
A group known as Lizard Squad has stated, via twitter, that they have performed DDOS attacks on the Sony’s PlayStation Network, Sony Online Entertainment, Blizzard’s Hearthstone, Riot Games’ League of Legends and Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile.
The various companies confirmed the attacks via twitter.

Path of Exile
We’re having some server issues due to a DDOS attack. Should have it sorted out soon. Sorry for the inconvenience!

While neither Blizzard nor Riot Games made any comment, Lizard Squad proudly announced that they carried out the attacks on Hearthstone and League of Legends.
It seems all the DDOS attacks have be resolved and services are either back on-line or in the process of being fully restored.
In its basic form a DDOS (Denial of Service Attack) is an attempt suspend services of network by overloading the network with more requests than the attacked network can take.
