Nintendo announce three new Super Smash Bros. characters

On June 11, 2014 by Aaron Meehan

Nintendo has revealed three new characters for Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS. The new characters are Mii fighters, Kid Icarus’s Palutena and Pac-Man.

The Mii fighter, which is a Mii character created via Mii Maker, will join the game as a type of multi class character with there being three types of Mii Fighter: Brawler, swordfighter and gunner. Each fighter type with have 12 special attacks each. Players can also customise their Mii Fighter with various hats and clothes. However, the Mii Fighters will be subject to some online restrictions. According Nintendo, “You won’t be able to use Mii Fighters when you fight with anyone online, but the plan is to enable this feature With Friends online.”

The next newcomer announced was Palutena, the Goddess of Light from the Kid Icaus series. Palutena’s announcement as a fighter was rather unique as Nintendo got the well-known animation studio, shaft (Mekakucity Actors, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) to create an anime introduction for the character. Honestly, after watching the three-minute video I really wanted Nintendo to do some more Super Smash Bros. anime shorts.

The final newcomer announcement was Pac-Man, the character from the classic 1980’s arcade game, Pac-Man. While the Pac-Man in Super Smash Bros. will look more like its 3D video game, there will be attacks that have it transform into its more popular circle with a piece missing.

Super Smash Bros. will be available on October 3, 2014 for the 3DS, and this winter for the Wii U.
