The Stargate curse continues as Arkalis Interactive disappears

On January 14, 2014 by Ash Meehan

It looks like the Stargate franchise has taken down another development studio, the studio this time are the Andorra based studio, Arkalis Interactive developers of the Stargate mobile episodic series, Stargate SG1: Unleashed.

Arkalis Interactive went quiet shortly after released Stargate SG1: Unleashed episode 2 for iOS devices in November 10, 2013. Even before the release of the second episode Arkalis Interactive there were indications of something wrong with on their Facebook page, a page that was regularly updated until October 16. Issues at the studio were 100% confirmed when their website went offline and their LinkedIn page stated that there were only three members of staff at the company (their LinkedIn company page states their company size is between 11-50 employees). Attempts to contact the company by phone proved pointless as the number didn’t appear to be in service (a non English automated message was played after calling).

Arkalis Interactive has now joined the likes of Perception, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and Dark Comet Games who all suffered or were shutdown trying to develop a Stargate game. Perception were developed Stargate SG1: The Alliance for PC, PS2 and Xbox, but the project was cancelled in August 2005 following a legal battle over the Stargate licence. Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (CME) were developing Stargate Worlds, a Stargate MMORPG, but after entering receivership development stopped and the game was quietly canned. Dark Comet Games, a studio made up of former CME employees, released Stargate Resistance, an online third person shooter in February 2010, but after eleven months the servers were shutdown.

There is no word as to what will happen to Stargate SG1: Unleashed, but it seems unlikely that the episodic series will continue.
