Don Mattrick might be leaving Microsoft for Zynga

On July 1, 2013 by Ash Meehan

Don Mattrick, President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft (the man in charge of the Xbox division) is supposedly leaving the company for Zynga according to All Things D.

According to All Things D, Don Mattrick might become CEO of Zynga. Zynga is a company which has being struggling as of late with major layoffs etc.

Neither Zynga nor Microsoft has commented on the report by All Things D.

Don Mattrick originally joined Microsoft in 2007 after leaving EA where he held the role of President of Worldwide Studios for EA. Mattrick’s role in Microsoft was that of Senior Vice President overseeing the Xbox and PC gaming business. Mattrick held the role for three years, where in October 2010 he was promoted to President of Interactive Entertainment Business, a role which has him reporting directly to the CEO of Microsoft.

If this report turns out to be true, it would be rather surprising. Granted the Xbox One announcement in May was poor and while Microsoft backtracked on some controversial features of the new console, I don’t see why Mattrick would leave the company. I’m sure there are a good number of people out there thinking to themselves why Mattrick left the company.
