Ireland tempting games industry with new incentives

On October 12, 2011 by Ash Meehan

Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny announced plans to attract games companies to Ireland yesterday with flexible incentives.

The newly created Games Ireland trade body have supported the move and told GamesIndustry.biz “All the biggest brands in the world are almost here now.”

On Monday Forfás outlined in a report the areas that the government is willing to look at in terms of the incentives. The incentives include tax based, R&D and project grants.

Paul Hayes, Games Ireland told GamesIndustry.biz “”We’ll take the best that we can from the Korean or the French or the Canadian experience, and just try and add what we can. I think as a country we’ve been pretty good at that and this is the first time that we’ve really focused on games with a bit of a laser beam.”

Ireland has an ever growing selection of games companies in Ireland which include Activision, Havok and Popcap. Recently Bioware opened up their customer support in Galway, Ireland.

It is unknown at this time if any companies are interested, but the games sector can only get better for Ireland.
