Activision could leave Britain

On January 3, 2011 by Ash Meehan

famed Call of Duty publisher Activision have threatened to leave Britain taking all 600 jobs with them. The reason for this is the “video game tax” that was promised by the out going government and was scrapped by the new government.

Activision are no stranger to controversy

Bobby Kotick Chief Executive of Activision said “I think it was a terrible mistake.” (in relation to the tax break no longer happening.) He also stated that the UK was full of talented developers and the tax break was needed.

Tax intransitives are offered by China, Singapore and some US states to lure some game developers and publishers.

Kotick not the only one called for a introduction of the tax relief, the TIGA who are a trade body which represent the video game industry in the UK has said there could be an exodus from Britain of video game developers to countries that offer incentives. There reason behind why it is a good idea to reintroduce the tax relief was because they say it could secure over 3000 graduate level jobs.
